KC and TAMPA BAY SUPER BOWL BREAKDOWN

Here we are hundreds of games later, 20 weeks later, some worries and scares, and we have gotten to the biggest game of the season with the Super Bowl. It has been a strange and unusual season to say the least, but somehow, someway, we have gotten to this point.
There were some genuine concerns about the season due to the Covid pandemic – but after rescheduling and adjustments we now have the best teams playing.

We have the magic of Patrick Mahomes leading his Kansas City Chiefs team to the game again – looking to repeat, which has shown to be very difficult. As there hasn’t been a repeat champ since Tom Brady and the Patriots back in 2004. Which brings us to the opposing team playing, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their 43 year old QB, Tom Brady.

We will examine and rank and see who has the potential advantage in the game on February 7th.

Kansas City Chiefs with a 14-2 regular season record.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 11-5 regular season record.

QB; Kansas City Chiefs  / Patrick Mahomes threw for 4740 yards and 38 TD passes on 66% passing, with 10 games of 275 or more passing yards, and a massive 108.2 QBR. The 25 year old QB is the face of the NFL. Tom Brady is 43 years old, he still put up 40 TD passes and over 4600 YDs but he has thrown for less than 7 YPA in 7 games, and he has been susceptible to some poor games.

RUNNING GAME;  Tampa Bay Buccaneers / Let’s be brutally honest here, Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette are far and away better than what Clyde Edward – Helaire and worn out LeVeon Bell are bringing to the table. The Chiefs main RBs combined for just 1057 YDs and 6 rushing TDs. Jones and Fournette ran for 13 TDs between them alone, and 1375 rushing yards. They hit paydirt with a much better efficiency, Mahomes brought the Chiefs the added option to move the chains with his feet, but Clyde Edward – Helaire is the only legit running threat for them, and he hasn’t been quite as good as anticipated.

RECEIVERS; Tampa Bay Buccaneers / Tyreek Hill is great with his blazing speed, and his 15 TDs and Travis Kelce is almost unguardable with his size and speed. But the Bucs have 13 TD catch WR Mike Evans, sticky hands Chris Godwin, sneaky slot WR Scotty Miller, and former 1500 YD WR Antonio Brown as a WR4 option? Seriously? These guys are beyond stacked.

O-LINE; Kansas City Chiefs  / Mahomes only got sacked 22 times this year for a 3.6% sack percentage. His ability to move and scramble when things go south is irreplaceable and a huge asset for any OLine. Brady has been protected well also, but the fact that if he is moved off his spot by 1.3 inches, he is likely going to the ground can be a concern.

OFFENSE; Tampa Bay Buccaneers / Ranked 3rd in the NFL – scoring 30.8 /game. The Bucs scored 38 or more points in 6 of their games this season, and have exploded for 480 or more total yards on 5 different occasions in 2020. They are a steady and constant threat to unleash a powerful barrage of offense very quickly and have scored less than 20 only 2 times.

D-LINE; Tampa Bay Buccaneers / Jason Pierre Paul and LB Devin White combined for 18.5 sacks between them alone. They have four guys with 6 or more sacks. They cause problems up front for anyone, this game will be no different for them – they get after the QB, end of story. They shut down the run game as well, giving up just 3.6 YPC and only 10 TDs on the ground. Kansas City is going to have a problem with them.

SECONDARY; Kansas City Chiefs / Tyrann Mathieu has been nothing short of awesome this season with 6 picks, 9 passes defensed, and 62 tackles. They have 4 guys who can take the ball away and get the team an extra possession in a hurry, they can shut down an opponents passing game in a hurry, only giving up 300+ passing yards only 3 times in 2020.

DEFENSE; Tampa Bay Buccaneers / Ranked 8th in the NFL – giving up 22.2 /game. The Bucs have allowed 20 or less in 53% of their games this season. They know how to keep teams out of the endzone. Both teams have strong defense, but Tampa Bay is slightly ahead.

COACHING; Kansas City Chiefs / It is hard to go against Andy Reid. Andy has 91 wins in 8 seasons since joining the team, and has shown the fortitude and courage to make the big calls, the experience, and he also comes in as defending Super Bowl champions, that means something.

Tampa Bay has the offense and the defense to handle the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City is excellent with their excellent coaching and QB play – but it is just too hard to go against Buccaneers and Tom Brady. I know many are rooting for Mahomes  to get his repeat and take over – but I see Brady having other plans, plans to unthrone the young gun. I just dont think he is ready to be unseated as of yet.
