MLB Preview – Team Totals

Baseball is back with the 2013 MLB season getting underway tonight. One of my favorite things at the start of every season is betting on the Team Totals for season wins. You’re getting action on all 162 games for which ever team you want, be it pulling for them or hoping they get killed and riddled with injuries. Let’s take a look at teams we think will be going Over their season win Totals.

LA Dodgers Over 91 Wins:

With Magic Johnson getting involved with the Dodgers and them signing a HUGE TV deal this team now has more money than God and they’re putting it to use. The Dodgers have a legit 7 starting pitchers in Kershaw, Greinke, Billingsly, Beckett, Capuano, Harang, and Lilly, I’ll be curious to see how they use them or if they try trading some away. We know they have one of the most lethal outfielder cores in MLB with Crawford, Ethier, and Kemp. Now they add Adrain Gonzalez at first and he knows the NL West pitching well considering he was always a Padre. With division games against the Padres, Rockies, and Diamondbacks this Dodger team could pile up a lot of Wins and quickly too. Let’s take em to go Over the suggested Total of 91 wins.

Oakland A’s Over 84.5 Wins:

I know what you’re thinking, Oakland to win 85 games?!? Let’s not forget, this was a Playoff team last year and with the addition of the Houston Astros to the AL West this team could be chalking up quite a few easy W’s. They also get 18 games with the Mariners and that team is usually a dumpster fire. Billy Bean keeps working his Money Ball magic and the A’s have a ridiculous pitching staff again this year. Nobody’s gonna feel confident placing this one but I love the A’s to go Over this Total. Now, let’s switch it up and talk about some teams to play Under the Win Total.

New York Yankees Under 84.5 Wins

Desperation is a stinky cologne and with the Yankees just signing Vernon Wells they’re looking pretty desperate. The Yankees could be renamed the Dinosaurs this year when you look at their roster. They’ve got Jeter, A-Rod, and Mariano Rivera. When Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira are your young bucks you could be in trouble. We know the Yankees are in the toughest division in baseball and wins are never easy to come by. Expect the Red Sox to be better after their awful year, the Rays are always a tough out, and Baltimore and Toronto have done nothing but gotten better over the past few years. It’s only a matter of time before New York starts eating these MONSTER long term contracts they like to sign and this might be the start of it. Let’s take New York to go Under the suggested 84.5 wins.

Houston Astros Under 58.5 Wins:

I know we’re not exactly out thinking the room here but with Houston joining the AL West things could be rocky. I don’t know how Houston wins 55 games in the NL last year and Vegas raises them to 58.5 in the AL this year. I think they’re praying to get to 45 wins. They’ll face Texas and the Angels in division and let’s not forget about the Oakland A’s. Divisional wins are gonna be tough to come by and let’s not fail to mention they’ll be playing the Tigers, the Rays, the Red Sox, the Yankees, etc. etc. This is the smallest payroll in baseball and it’s gonna take em a few years to adjust to the more aggressive play of the AL. Let’s gladly play this Under ay 58.5 wins.
